While you may be familiar with the roles of Bowser, Yoshi, Toad and Princess Peach, did you know that some of these iconic squid game characters were based on real people?

Gloomy Octopus

The gloomy octopus is one of the original squid game characters. He is based on the real-life creature of the same name. The octopus is known for its dark, ink-like coloration. It is also considered to be one of the most intelligent creatures in the animal kingdom. The octopus is a master of camouflage and can change its appearance to blend in with its surroundings. It is also an expert escape artist, able to squirt ink and jet away from predators.


Bee Team

The Bee Team is a group of squid game characters who are based on real people. The team includes: Bee, Octopus, Squid, and Worm. Each character has their own unique personality and back story.


Inkling (Splatoon)

Inkling, the squid game character, is based on a real-life animal called the cuttlefish. Cuttlefish are amazing creatures that can change their appearance to blend in with their surroundings. They also have the ability to squirt ink, which they use to protect themselves from predators. Inkling’s design was inspired by these fascinating creatures.

In the F-Zero series, Samurai Goroh and Dr. Stewart are two of the most iconic squid game characters. They’re both incredibly fast racers with very different styles. Samurai Goroh is a fierce and determined competitor, while Dr. Stewart is a cool and collected genius. What you may not know is that these two characters are based on real people. samurai Goroh is based on Masaru Ibuka, the co-founder of Sony, and Dr. Stewart is based on Yu Suzuki, the creator of Sega’s Virtua Fighter series. Both men are legends in the gaming industry, and it’s no surprise that their characters are some of the most popular in the F-Zero series.


Blathers, Brewster, and Celeste (Animal Crossing series)

Three of the most popular squid game characters are Blathers, Brewster, and Celeste from the Animal Crossing series. All three of these characters are based on real people. Blathers is based on a Japanese beetle collector, Brewster is based on a barista, and Celeste is based on an astronomer.


Toby the Ghost Dog, Ivan the Paranoid Psychic, and Elli the Scaredy Cat (Hello Neighbor)

It’s no secret that many video game characters are based on real people. But did you know that some of your favorite squid game characters were also inspired by real-life people? For example, Toby the Ghost Dog from Hello Neighbor was based on a real dog named Tobi who belonged to one of the game’s developers. Ivan the Paranoid Psychic from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was based on a man named Igor Zharkov, who was a security guard at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. And Elli the Scaredy Cat from Animal Crossing was based on a real cat named Ellie who belonged to one of the game’s designers.


Goomba (Super Mario Bros.)

Believe it or not, the first squid game character was based on a real person. According to legend, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto saw a beetle crawling up a tree while he was walking through the woods one day. He was so inspired by the creature that he decided to create a video game character based on it. The result was Goomba, one of the most iconic characters in video gaming history.


Kazooie (Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie – Nuts & Bolts in Banjo-Tooie is based on this character.)

Kazooie is a red-crested Breegull who first appears in Banjo-Kazooie as the sidekick and playable character of Banjo. Kazooie is known for her sass, quick wit, and sharp tongue. It is later revealed in Banjo-Tooie that Kazooie was born from an egg that was meant to hatch into a dragon, but due to a mistake by Gruntilda, she instead hatched into a Breegull. Kazooie is one of the most popular squid game characters and has appeared in several games outside of the Banjo-Kazooie series.


Kirby’s Animal Friends Before They Were His Animal Friends (Kirby’s Dream Land 3/Kirby 64.)

Many of Kirby’s animal friends in Kirby’s Dream Land 3 and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards were based on real animals. For example, Waddle Dee was based on a pufferfish, while Gooey was based on an octopus. However, some of Kirby’s animal friends were based on more unusual creatures.
